Through an exciting new partnership with the Australian Geographic Society, we have been able to deliver our 'One Seed at a Time' project, developed to refine our collection methods under the guidance of a locally renowned Botanist, Ann Moran.
We ran a workshop and several information sessions for staff, volunteers and conservation students on seed collection protocols, sustainable and environmentally sound harvesting, seed identification, selection and collection. We honed our knowledge through seed collection forays in the Mooloolah River catchment. Back in the nursery we processed our seeds which included a variety of heat, smoke, soaking and scarification, depending on the type of seed. Since completing the project with the Australian Geographic Society, we now intend to build upon our efforts by undertaking regular seed collection events in the catchment.
