Sunshine Coast Biocontrol Facility

Weeds of National Significance (WoNS) are invading our valuable waterways.  To address this urgent issue MRL established the Sunshine Coast Biocontrol Facility in 2017 at our nursery site.  We currently breed two biocontrol agents:
  • Leaf mining jewel beetle (Hylaeogena jureceki), for the control of Cat's claw creeper; and
  • Madeira vine beetle (Plectonycha correntina) which attacks Madeira vine.
We undertake the sale and release of these beetles in strategic locations around our catchment.
If you would like to participate in the Sunshine Coast Biocontrol Facility, please contact our Biocontrol Officer, Jessica (MRWL.projects@gmail.com) to learn more.

We are looking for volunteers and also provide community education events.
